HL Deb 29 May 1946 vol 141 cc553-4
VISCOUNT SIMON

My Lords, I beg to ask the noble Viscount, the Leader of the House, a question of which I have given him private notice. The question is as follows: To ask His Majesty's Government whether in view of the report from India that the Cabinet Mission's answers to recent inquiries as to the Mission's proposals have been published, these answers, together with such inquiries so far as documentary, will at once be made available to Parliament in a White Paper.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DOMINION AFFAIRS (VISCOUNT ADDISON)

My Lords, the Statement issued by the Cabinet Delegation on May 25 was made with reference to a statement dated May 22 by the President of the Muslim League and a resolution dated May 24 of the Congress Working Committee. These latter are at present only partially available through Press channels but as soon as the authentic text has been received from India they will be published along with the Delegation's Statement in a supplementary White Paper.

I may perhaps add that the correspondence to which the noble Viscount referred in his question on Wednesday last will, I hope, be available as a White Paper to-morrow (Thursday).

VISCOUNT SIMON

My Lords, I am very much obliged to the noble Viscount. I do not desire to ask anything more at the moment, but I am sure he will have observed that it is also stated in The Times and elsewhere that there has been a memorandum presented to the Chamber of Princes with regard to the question of paramountcy and matters of that sort. I am sure he will consider how soon he can let us have that also.
