HL Deb 20 June 1946 vol 141 c1085

5.58 p.m.

LORD AMMON

My Lords, with reference to the further stages of the Coal Industry Nationalisation Bill, I should like to acquaint your Lordships that we propose to take the Report stage on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 2 and 3, and the Third Reading on Friday, July 5.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DOMINION AFFAIRS (VISCOUNT ADDISON)

My Lords, might I add a sentence to that? There is a Motion on the Wednesday relating to broadcasting which I know is attracting considerable interest. Of course if the Report stage of this Bill does not occupy the whole of Wednesday there might be time for that discussion. If there is not I should be glad, in consultation with noble Lords opposite, to try and arrange another suitable time for the discussion on Broadcasting.

VISCOUNT CRANBORNE

My Lords, I am most grateful. I think it is quite possible that we shall get through the Report stage in one day, in which case the noble Lord, Lord Brabazon, will have Wednesday for his debate. If I were he I should leave the Motion on the Paper.

VISCOUNT ADDISON

My Lords, I am afraid I was incorrectly informed. I was trying to do good, but I find I have done so unnecessarily. Apparently the debate on broadcasting is next Wednesday, June 26. However, if there should be an important debate on the Paper for that day I will endeavour to be equally accommodating in these circumstances.
