HL Deb 11 July 1946 vol 142 cc320-1

[The reference is to Bill (92) as originally printed for the House of Lords.]

Page 32, in the words inserted on Report [namely, "being a form which shall distinguish the colliery activities and each of the main ancillary activities of the Board and shall show separately the results of each such activity for each Mining District and shall include a balance sheet and profit and loss account in conformity with the best commercial standards"] leave out from the word ("Board") to the end of the words so inserted.

The Commons propose to amend the above Amendment by inserting, after the word "which," the words "shall conform with the best commercial standards and which."

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, I beg to move that the House agree with this Amendment. Your Lordships remember what the position was. I had by inadvertence, in the clause dealing with the form of accounts, left out words providing that the accounts should conform to the best commercial practice. We only realized this on Third Reading, and according to our strict rules we could not then move a manuscript Amendment to the Amendment on the Order Paper. Accordingly I undertook to see that the words your Lordships wanted should be put in. Therefore I am satisfied your Lordships will desire to agree with the Commons in their Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
