HL Deb 03 July 1946 vol 142 c126
EARL FORTESCUE

My Lords, I beg to ask the question standing in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government, what has been the success of the issue of peace stamps, and how long they will be on sale to the public.]

THE POSTMASTER-GENERAL (THE EARL OF LISTOWEL)

My Lords, I am much obliged to my noble friend opposite for raising this matter. Our intention is that the peace stamps shall be available to the public for about two months, that is, until the middle of August. These stamps have proved very popular, and the demand for them has been much greater than was anticipated. Almost the whole of the original stock has now been issued to Post Offices. In order to keep up the stock, I have arranged for a further supply to be printed, making the total order to date 300,000,000 of the 2½d. and 42,000,000 of the 3d. stamps.

EARL FORTESCUE

My Lords, I am very grateful to the noble Lord for his reply.
