HL Deb 28 February 1946 vol 139 cc964-5
THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DOMINION AFFAIRS (VISCOUNT ADDISON)

had given Notice of a Motion to resolve, That the proceedings of Tuesday last with respect to the Bill be vacated. The noble Viscount said: My Lords, the Motion which stands in my name seeks to vacate our proceedings on the Third Reading of this Bill last Tuesday, and is designed to enable us to remedy what may be described as a "technical hitch." Unhappily, before we passed it here and sent it to another place, we omitted to move the Privilege Amendment cutting out the subsection which provides for the payment of expenses under the Act out of moneys voted by Parliament. If your Lordships will be good enough to pass this Motion to remedy this hitch, the Bill will be ordered for a Third Reading tomorrow, and will be passed formally after the Privilege Amendment has been made, at our sitting at four o'clock tomorrow afternoon when, as I told your Lordships yesterday, we hope to receive the Agricultural (Ploughing Up of Land) Bill and to give it a First Reading so as to enable the Second Reading to be taken on Tuesday next. I regret that it is necessary to move this, and I ask for your Lordships' clemency in this matter. I beg to move.

Moved, That the proceedings of Tuesday last with respect to the Bill be vacated.—(Viscount Addison.)

On Question, Motion agreed to, and ordered accordingly.
