HL Deb 20 February 1946 vol 139 c757
LORD HACKING

My Lords, I beg to ask the question which appears in my name on the Order Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether they will now publish the White Paper containing the comments and conclusions of the late Government on the Report of the House of Lords Select Committee regarding the prevention of road accidents, which Report was published in 1939.]

LORD WALKDEN

My Lords, the noble Lord is under a misapprehension in thinking that the late Government prepared a White Paper on the Report of the House of Lords Select Committee on road accidents. In December, 1943, the then Minister of War Transport asked the Committee on Road Safety to review the recommendations of the Alness Report and to advise on those which should be adopted as measures of post-war policy for the reduction of accidents. The Committee on Road Safety presented an Interim Report in December, 1944, which was published, and a further Report is now being prepared.
