HL Deb 06 February 1946 vol 139 cc287-8
LORD BEAVERBROOK

My Lords, I beg to ask the third question standing in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether it is the case that the Wool Agreement made by the United Kingdom with the three Southern Dominions was completed after the preparation of the "Statistical Material presented during the Washington Negotiations" as contained in Cmd. 6707; and at what date the agreement was first announced to the public.]

LORD PAKENHAM

My Lords, it is not the case. It was announced on the 29th May, 1945, that a conference of officials and experts from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa bad agreed upon a report to be submitted to the respective Governments. On the 30th August, 1945, it was announced that the four Governments had accepted the Report, which was then made public.
