My Lords, I beg to ask the first question in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether our current consumption of raw cotton is at the rate of 220,000 tons per annum and whether East Indian, Egyptian and Brazilian cotton account for 140,000 tons of this consumption.]

My Lords, the total consumption of raw cotton during the last quarter of 1945 was at the rate of 337,000 tons per annum. Consumption of Indian, Egyptian and Brazilian cotton during the same period was at the rate of 148,000 tons per annum.
