HL Deb 17 December 1946 vol 144 cc1073-4
LORD SALTOUN

had the following Notice on the Order Paper: To call the attention of His Majesty's Government to the persistent pollution of our streams and rivers by local authorities and others; to ask if they will consider legislation to reinforce existing laws before it is too late; and to move for Papers. The noble Lord said: My Lords, in view of the lateness of the hour, and as the subject of my Motion is one of first-class importance, with which many of your Lordships in all quarters of the House sympathize, with your Lordships' permission I propose to raise it on another occasion.

LORD STRABOLGI

, who had a similar Motion on the Paper, said: My Lords, my noble friend and I are quite clearly angling for the same fish. Having been in consultation with him, I also desire, by leave of your Lordships, to postpone this Motion and to put it down for a date after the Christmas Recess.
