HL Deb 16 December 1946 vol 144 c996

7.28 p.m.

VISCOUNT SAMUEL

My Lords, I beg to ask the question standing in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether, in view of the general interest in the Roosevelt Memorial and the widespread criticism of the proposed design for the statue, they will arrange for a model to be shown in the Palace of Westminster before the work is executed.]

LORD HENDERSON

My Lords, the sculptor has nearly completed a clay model one-third of the ultimate size of the statue. I regret it is impracticable at present to move this model, but Sir William Reid Dick has kindly offered to show it in his studio, and if noble Lords and members of another place who wish to see the model will let my right honourable friend, the Minister of Works, know, the necessary arrangements will be made.

VISCOUNT SAMUEL

I thank the noble Lord for his reply.
