HL Deb 09 April 1946 vol 140 c597

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

LORD WESTWOOD

My Lords, in a few words I beg to move the Second Reading of this Bill, which is pure consolidation. The law relating to education in Scotland is at present contained in some twenty-three separate Statutes beginning with the Act of 1872 and ending with the Act of 1945. One of the purposes of the Act of last year was to prepare the way for the present Bill. Consolidation is long overdue and will be a great boon to all concerned with Scottish education. If your Lordships give the Bill a Second Reading, it will be sent to the Joint Select Committee on Consolidation Bills.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.ߞ(Lord Westwood.)

On Question, Bill read 2a and referred to the Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills.
