HL Deb 02 April 1946 vol 140 c542

6.24 p.m.

VISCOUNT STONEHAVEN

My Lords, I beg to ask the question standing in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether the Board of Trade export figure for February, 1946, of £59,985,280 includes the value of materials and goods supplied to U.N.R.R.A., and if so, what was the value in sterling of the materials and goods so supplied.]

LORD PAKENHAM

My Lords, the whole of these goods are included in the export statistics, and the exports to U.N.R.R.A. from this country are not separately recorded. A precise figure cannot, therefore, he given, but the value of such goods in February was, roughly, £2,500,000.

VISCOUNT STONEHAVEN

My Lords, arising out of that answer, would the noble Lord consider in future keeping these items separate, as they are compared to pre-war figures of export trade which are not really comparable on the same terms?

LORD PAKENHAM

I will certainly convey the suggestion of the noble Lord to the proper quarters.
