HL Deb 09 October 1945 vol 137 cc191-2

2.10 p.m.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD JOWITT)

My Lords, I have to inform your Lordships that I have received the following message from the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. It reads:

"The Lord Chancellor, House of Lords, London.

"I have the honour to request your Excellency to be good enough to acquaint the House of Lords with the following Motion which the Grand National Assembly of Turkey has voted unanimously during its sitting on August 15, 1945:

'On the occasion of the unconditional surrender of Japan, it is with great joy that we have learned the news of the unconditional surrender of Japan and the end of the war which during many years has ravaged the world and cost the lives of millions of human beings. We feel a profound admiration for those who have heroically sacrificed their lives in the struggle against the aggressors, and we sincerely share the great sorrow of their families. Our admiration is boundless for those who in order to arrive at this end have given brilliant proof of the powers of humanity in different fields of action.

(Signed) ABDUL ALIK RENDA."

I have to inform your Lordships that I have sent a suitable reply.

Ordered, That the said Message be entered on the Journals of the House.
