Order of the Day for the consideration of the Fourth Report from the Select Committee read.

The Committee reported as follows:

1.Reorganization of the Staff of the Parliament Office.

The Committee considered proposals made by the Clerk of the Parliaments with regard to the reorganization of the staff of the Parliament Office.

The Committee appointed the following members:— The Earl of Donoughmore, the Earl Stanhope, the Viscount Hailsham, the Lord Templemore, the Lord Denman, the Lord Stanmore and the Lord Southwood, as a Sub-Committee to consider the reorganization of the staff of the Parliament Office and to report their recommendations to the House of Lords Offices Committee.

2.Illness of the Yeoman Usher of the Black Rod.

The Committee authorized the temporary appointment of Major-General Nigel Maitland Wilson to carry out the duties of Yeoman Usher of the Black Rod and Secretary to the Lord Great Chamberlain during the absence, through illness, of Lord Esm é Gordon-Lennox.

My Lords, there is nothing of importance in this Report. The Committee appointed a Sub-Committee to consider in detail proposals made by the Clerk of the Parliaments for the reorganization of the staff of the Parliament Office. In addition to that, temporary measures were agreed to relating to the duties of Yeoman Usher during the much regretted absence of Lord Esmé Gordon-Lennox. I beg to move that the Report be now considered.
