HL Deb 06 June 1945 vol 136 cc404-5

Clause 5, page 4, line 16, at end, insert as a new clause:

Provisions as to Northern Ireland.

("—(1) If the Parliament of Northern Ireland pass an Act similar to the provisions of this Act, Article 21 of the Convention contained in the Schedule to the Carriage by Air Act, 1932, shall have effect as respects courts in Northern Ireland, subject to the provisions of the said Act of the Parliament of Northern Ireland.

(2) This Act, except the provisions of the last foregoing subsection, shall not extend to Northern Ireland.")

Clause 6, page 4, line 19, leave out subsection (2).

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in these Amendments to Clauses 5 and 6. I have taken the other two Amendments together, because although technically the matter is dealt with in four separate Amendments, the first two have to do with the same point. There are, however, there other Amendments which relate to the Parliament of Northern Ireland. If they pass an Act similar to the provisions of this Act, Article 21 of the Convention contained in the Schedule to the Carriage by Air Act, 1932, shall have effect as respects Courts in Northern Ireland, subject to the provisions of the said Act of the Parliament of Northern Ireland. It is purely for the purpose of giving Northern Ireland the opportunity of coming into line with the new British law. I beg to move that the House doth agree with the Commons in these Amendments.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendments.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
