HL Deb 21 June 1944 vol 132 c305
THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DOMINION AFFAIRS (VISCOUNT CRANBORNE) (Lord Cecil)

My Lords, before we pass to the further consideration of the Education Bill, I should like to make an appeal to noble Lords to assist the Lord Chairman as far as they possibly can in expediting business. As your Lordships are aware, there are twenty-six pages of Amendments on this Bill, and yesterday, with all our efforts, we got through only three of them. It was arranged yesterday that we should have an extra day for the consideration of the Committee stage, but even so, I am afraid, we are sadly behind schedule. The only result of long delay would be to prejudice discussion of other Motions because we must get this Bill through and send it back to another place. Therefore I hope noble Lords will assist in any way they can to hurry things up.
