§ Order of the Day read for the consideration of the Commons Message of Tuesday last—namely, "That it is expedient that a Joint Committee of Lords and Commons be appointed to inquire into the accommodation in the Palace of Westminster, and to report thereon with such recommendations as appear to them desirable."
§ LORD TEMPLEMOREMy Lords, my noble friend the Leader of the House 219 has been called away on an important public engagement. He has thought it his duty to take a close personal interest in the matter in regard to which he is going to move the Resolution, which is a very important one. He has therefore asked me to request the House to consent to the matter being postponed till to-morrow, when he will be present to deal with it in person.
§ LORD ADDISONMy Lords, I should like to say on behalf of my noble friends that we have been consulted beforehand about the business with which the noble Viscount the Leader of the House is concerned, and in view of the close personal interest that he takes in this matter I hope that the House will agree to the noble Lord's suggestion.
VISCOUNT MERSEYMy Lords, on behalf of noble Lords who sit on these Benches, I should like to say that we take the same view as that just expressed by my noble friend Lord Addison.
§ Motion postponed till to-morrow.
