VISCOUNT CRANBORNEMy Lords, I am happy to inform the House that the King has been pleased to extend the term of Sir Henry Badeley's tenure of office as Clerk of the Parliaments which, in the normal course, would have terminated upon his reaching the age limit towards the end of this month. In recommending my right honourable friend the Prime Minister to submit Sir Henry Badeley's name for this extension, I was able to assure him that I had consulted the Lord Chancellor and the Leaders of the other Parties in your Lordships' House who cordially agreed with my recommendation. I should add, perhaps, that Sir Henry himself will be very pleased to continue in the service of the House. I am sure that the recommendation which I have made 6 will receive the warm approval of your Lordships.
§ LORD ADDISONMy Lords, I am asked by noble Lords on this side of the House to express our cordial concurrence in what the noble Viscount has proposed.
§ VISCOUNT SAMUELMy Lords, noble Lords on these Benches also desire to concur. We have heard with much gratification that we are not to lose, yet awhile, the principal officer of the House, whose courtesy and kindness are appreciated by all of us.
THE LORD ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURYMy Lords, I think perhaps one word should be said also from the Bishops' Benches, to signify our pleasure that Sir Henry Badeley will still remain in the service of the House.
