HL Deb 18 May 1943 vol 127 c564
LORD SOUTHWOOD

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the question standing in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether they have considered the harmful effect of long working-hours upon the youth of this country, and whether they will state what steps they are prepared to take to meet the situation.]

LORD SNELL

My Lords, the question of working conditions of young people in war-time has been under careful consideration by His Majesty's Government. A White Paper summarizing the reports received from local education authorities on the results of the registration of young people, and indicating the steps which His Majesty's Government propose to take to deal with some of the conditions affecting their working hours and conditions, has been presented and it is expected that copies will be available to-morrow afternoon.
