My Lords, I have to convey to the House the following Message from the King, signed with his own hand:

"I have received your Address praying that the Emergency Powers (Defence) Act, 1939, as amended by any subsequent enactment, be continued in force for a further period of one year beginning with the twentyfourth day of August, 1943. I will comply with your request."
