HL Deb 10 September 1942 vol 124 c343
LORD WINSTER

My Lords, I beg to ask the question standing in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether they propose to hold an impartial inquiry into conditions of work in the Liverpool docks.]

LORD SNELL

My Lords, my right honourable friends the Minister of Labour and National Service and the Minister of War Transport have appointed Sir John Forster to review the conditions obtaining under the Merseyside Dock Labour Scheme and to report to them.

LORD WINSTER

My Lords, may I say, in view of statements in the correspondence which has recently taken place in The Times in connexion with conditions in the Mersey, I think the decision which is announced will give the very greatest satisfaction indeed? I thank the noble Lord for his reply.
