HL Deb 30 June 1942 vol 123 cc548-9
LORD DAVIES

My Lords, I beg to ask the second question standing in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether it is true that certain tentative arrangements for the representation of the British war effort on the occasion of the United Nations Day parade in New-York on the 14th instant were abandoned at the last moment, what were the reasons for this decision, and on whose authority was it reached.]

THE EARL OF SELBORNE

My Lords, I am glad to have this opportunity of stating that there is no foundation in fact for the report to which the noble Lord refers. The arrangements for the representation of the United Kingdom in the United Nations Day parade in New York, including participation by a detachment of the Royal Navy and by British Great War veterans, were discussed and agreed upon by the British authorities concerned, and were carried out without alteration, and I think I may say to the satisfaction of the New York public.
