Order of the Day for the consideration of the Third Report from the Select Committee read.

The Committee reported as follows:

1.—Retirement of senior messenger. The Committee sanctioned a pension and additional allowance under the Superannuation Act, 1935, to Mr. William West, senior messenger in the Parliament Office, on his retirement on 21st June, 1942, at the age of 65 after 21 years' service.

2.—Coal porters. The Committee agreed to the scheme approved by the Lord Chairman of Committees, the Clerk of the Parliaments and the Yeoman Usher of the Black Rod with reference to the establishment and rates of pay of coal porters.

3.—Resident Superintendent. The Committee authorized the Clerk of the Parliaments to approach the Office of Works with regard to the supply of light and fuel to occupants of official quarters in the Palace of Westminster.

4.—Clerk of the Parliaments, house allowance. The Committee agreed to the inclusion of the existing house allowance in the salary of the Clerk of the Parliaments.
