HL Deb 04 August 1942 vol 124 c159

Order of the Day for the House to be put into Committee read.

LORD SNELL

My Lords, in moving that the House do resolve itself into Committee on this Bill, I might be allowed to answer a point that was raised by my noble friend Lord Wedgwood at a previous stage of the Bill. On the Second Reading Lord Wedgwood asked whether people from Cyprus are included under the plans for conscription in Egypt. It is perhaps only necessary to say that as Cyprus is a Colony, Cypriots will be liable for conscription if they are normally resident in Egypt. Under the Order in Council which has been made they will in general be regarded as normally resident in Egypt if they have lived there for so long as two years.

Moved, That the House do now resolve itself into Committee.—(Lord Snell.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

House in Committee accordingly: Bill reported without amendment.
