HL Deb 13 May 1941 vol 119 c158
THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES (THE EARL OF ONSLOW)

My Lords, as you are aware it is usual for the Leader of your Lordships' House and the Leaders of the Labour Opposition and of the Liberal Party to be members of all these Standing Committees in your Lordships' House. My noble friend Lord Moyne is not yet a member, and, therefore, I am going to ask your Lordships if you will add his name to all these Committees. There will be no necessity to make a place for him except on the Standing Orders Committee, which is limited to forty members, and in this case I have written to Lord Halifax, who is in America, and therefore cannot attend, but who still remains a member of the other Committees. I suggested to him that he might make room for his successor as Leader of the House. I am very glad to say that my noble friend Lord Denman has agreed to help us by serving on one or two of the Committees. It is not always easy nowadays, as your Lordships may be aware, to get a quorum on all these Committees, and so we are very grateful to any of your Lordships who are willing to serve. I beg to move that Lord Moyne be appointed a member of the Committee of Selection.

Moved, That the Lord Moyne be appointed a member of the Committee of Selection.—(The Earl of Onslow.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
