HL Deb 18 June 1941 vol 119 c484
VISCOUNT CECIL OF CHELWOOD

My Lords, before the House adjourns, may I ask how long are we to go on with this ridiculous farce of having on our Notice Papers "First Sitting Day "and" Second Sitting Day"? The "Second Sitting Day" presents a continual problem of calculation. One does not know-when the "Second Sitting Day" will occur. For instance, we do not sit tomorrow, whereas if we were going to sit to-morrow the "Second Sitting Day" would be a different day next week. I wish my noble friend would take steps to get rid of this fantastic nonsense, which cannot have any real virtue in it at all.

LORD SNELL

My Lords, I shall see that the noble Viscount's remarks are transmitted to the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, as he is aware, a notice is sent out by the Leader of the House each week stating the specific days on which the House will meet.

VISCOUNT CECIL OF CHELWOOD

That makes it all the more absurd not to have it in the official programme.

House adjourned.
