HL Deb 17 July 1941 vol 119 cc881-2
LORD DAVIES

My Lords, I beg to ask the second question standing on the Paper in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government how many men of military age are employed in the Ministries of Food, Shipping and Transport, Information, Economic Warfare, and Supply; and the proportion which these numbers represent to the total establishment of each of these Departments.]

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, as the answer is most clearly given in tabular form, I will, with my noble friend's permission, circulate it in the Official Report. I should add that in the time available it has not been possible to obtain the required information in respect of the Ministry of Food, but if my noble friend will put down a further question about that Department in a fortnight's time I hope that I shall then be in a position to reply.

The particulars are as follows:
Dept. Total Staff. Men of Military Age Percentage.
Ministry of War Transport. 8,174 940 11.5
Ministry of Infrmation. 1,866 412 22.06
Ministry of Economic Warfare 1,243 177 14.24
Ministry of Supply. 37,025 9,356 25.35
