Order of the Day for the consideration of the Third Report from the Select Committee read.

The Committee reported as follows:

(1) Fire WatchingHouses of Parliament. Particulars regarding the staff in charge of arrangements for fire watching together with special payments to certain full-time members were laid before the Committee and approved.

(2) Death by Enemy Action of Resident Superintendent, Captain Edward L. H. Elliott. The Committee authorised the payment of a death gratuity and war injury pension to the late Captain Elliott's widow, his legal personal representative.

(3) Appointment of Resident Superintendent. The Committee approved the appointment of Mr. F. C. Meech, First Principal Doorkeeper, as Resident Superintendent in the place of the late Captain E. L. H. Elliott. The Committee also sanctioned the payment of a grant to the head porter for extra work in connection with the Resident Superintendent's office.

(4) Examiner of Standing Orders. The Committee were informed of the appointment of Mr. Anthony II. Jeffreys as Examiner in place of Mr. G. H. Eastwood resigned, for the duration of the war.

(5) Yeoman Usher of the Black Rod. An application from the Yeoman Usher of the Black Rod for a house allowance during such time as his official residence is not habitable was referred to a sub-committee consisting of the Lord Moyne, the Chairman of Committees and the Clerk of the Parliaments.

(6) Principal Clerk of Judicial Department. The Clerk of the Parliaments informed the Committee that he had appointed Mr. Granville Proby to be Principal Clerk of the Judicial Department.
