HL Deb 17 September 1940 vol 117 cc416-7
LORD DAVIES

My Lords, I beg to ask the second question standing on the Paper in my name.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether they are now in a position to state that the restoration of the liberty of Ethiopia is included in our war aims and whether every assistance within our power will be given to the people of Abyssinia to regain their independence.]

LORD TEMPLEMORE

My Lords, in the absence of my noble friend the Secretary of State I have been asked to answer this question. His Majesty's Government, who naturally have no territorial or other ambitions in Ethiopia, are anxious to see that country liberate itself from Italian aggression. They will afford every assistance to those Ethiopians who have taken up, or will take up, arms against the invader.
