HL Deb 22 May 1940 vol 116 c380
THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DOMINION AFFAIRS (VISCOUNT CALDECOTE)

My Lords, I have to inform your Lordships that it has been found necessary to ask your Lordships to pass through all its stages to-day an Emergency Powers (Defence) Bill which is now being considered in another place. To that end I would ask your Lordships now to adjourn during pleasure in order that we may await the Bill. I shall then ask your Lordships to consent to the suspension of the necessary Standing Orders in order that the Bill may be passed through all its stages and may receive the Royal Assent to-day.

House adjourned during pleasure.

House resumed.
