HL Deb 01 September 1939 vol 114 cc949-50
EARL STANHOPE

My Lords, it will be necessary to ask your Lordships to sit not only to-morrow but also on Sunday. I propose, therefore, that the House should adjourn now until three o'clock on Saturday afternoon, and I hope then to be able to announce the time of meeting on Sunday. The only business to-morrow will be to receive such statement as His His Majesty's Government are able to make. There will be no Bills to deal with, but there will be Bills on Sunday, followed by a Royal Commission. I would like to ask your Lordships whether you would prefer to sit on Sunday morning or on Sunday afternoon. I think it would be preferable to meet on Sunday afternoon. I think another place will probably meet earlier but we might have to adjourn several times if we met in the morning. Therefore I suggest that we should meet in the afternoon, probably at three o' clock.

LORD STRABOLGI

My Lords, may I ask whether the noble Earl is in a position to say if there will be any sittings next week after Sunday?

EARL STANHOPE

It is most probable that we shall have to sit several times next week, but I cannot say yet how often.

House adjourned at eight minutes before midnight.
