HL Deb 01 September 1939 vol 114 cc923-4

6.51 p.m.

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (EARL STANHOPE)

My Lords, there are a number of Bills which His Majesty's Government feel necessary should receive the Royal Assent to-night. They are being considered in another place now and they will no doubt come to us in due course; but, instead of your Lordships being asked to wait for each Bill as it arrives, I suggest that we should adjourn now till nine o'clock. Then I think that there will be enough business for us to take the first batch of those Bills through this House, if your Lordships so please. It will be my duty when the House resumes to move that the Standing Orders be suspended in order that those Bills should be carried through all their stages this evening and receive the Royal Assent before we adjourn. I beg to move that the House do now adjourn till nine o'clock.

Moved accordingly, and, on Question, Motion agreed to.

House adjourned during pleasure.

House resumed.
