HL Deb 09 May 1939 vol 112 c999

6.13 p.m.

THE MARQUESS OF ZETLAND

My Lords, I beg to move that the Special Order, as reported from the Special Orders Committee on May 3, be approved. I should perhaps explain that under the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1931, it is provided that agricultural marketing schemes may include power to buy and to sell or let for hire anything required for the production, adaptation for sale, or sale of products regulated under the schemes. Such power has in fact been incorporated in each of the milk marketing schemes in operation in Great Britain, with the exception of the Aberdeen and District Scheme, and the purpose of the present Amendment is to include similar provisions in this Scheme. The Amendment should conduce to the more efficient operation of the Scheme, and I therefore beg to move.

Moved, That the Special Order, as reported from the Special Orders Committee on Wednesday last, be approved.—(The Marquess of Zetland.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
