HL Deb 04 May 1939 vol 112 cc962-4

Order of the Day for the Third Reading read.

5.43 p.m.

THE MARQUESS OF ZETLAND

My Lords, in moving the Third Reading of this Bill I should explain to your Lordships that the opportunity is taken in Clause 2 (8) to provide that the method of appointment of the clerks of the General Board of Control—that is, by the Board with the approval of the Secretary of State—shall extend to the secretary, whose appointment lies at present with His Majesty. This change is in line with modern practice and in accordance with precedent, and I have to acquaint your Lordships that I have it in Command from His Majesty to signify to the House that His Majesty, having been informed of the purport of the Bill, gives his consent, as far as His Majesty's interest is concerned, that the House may do therein as they shall think fit. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 3a.—(The Marquess of Zetland.)

On Question, Bill read 3a, and passed.
