HL Deb 30 June 1938 vol 110 cc436-7

Order of the Day for the Third Reading read.

THE EARL OF LISTOWEL

My Lords, on the Motion for the Third Reading of this Bill I should like to take the opportunity of saying a few words of thanks to His Majesty's Government and to the members of all Parties in both Houses of Parliament whose friendly co-operation has made possible the passage of this very valuable measure of social reform into law. There is, however, one name with which this Bill will always, I think, be especially closely associated. Mr. Banfield has, like many other trade unionists, spent his life in the endeavour to improve the lot of his fellow-workers, and I should like the columns of the OFFICIAL REPORT to record our grateful appreciation and recognition of this his crowning achievement on behalf of the employees in the baking industry.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 3a(The Earl of Listowel.)

On Question, Bill read 3a, with the Amendment, and passed, and returned to the Commons.
