§ Order of the Day for the Third Reading read.
§ THE EARL OF LISTOWELMy Lords, on the Motion for the Third Reading of this Bill I should like to take the opportunity of saying a few words of thanks to His Majesty's Government and to the members of all Parties in both Houses of Parliament whose friendly co-operation has made possible the passage of this very valuable measure of social reform into law. There is, however, one name with which this Bill will always, I think, 437 be especially closely associated. Mr. Banfield has, like many other trade unionists, spent his life in the endeavour to improve the lot of his fellow-workers, and I should like the columns of the OFFICIAL REPORT to record our grateful appreciation and recognition of this his crowning achievement on behalf of the employees in the baking industry.
§ Moved, That the Bill be now read 3a(The Earl of Listowel.)
§ On Question, Bill read 3a, with the Amendment, and passed, and returned to the Commons.
