HL Deb 27 July 1938 vol 110 cc1203-4
LORD SNELL

My Lords, I beg to ask the noble Earl whether he can make any statement about the business of the House.

THE EARL OF LUCAN

My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend the Leader of the House, who has been detained elsewhere, may I give the following notice about business? The Government propose that Parliament shall reassemble after the Summer Recess on Tuesday, November 1. It is expected that Parliament will be prorogued during that week and that His Majesty will open the new Session on Tuesday, November 8. The Motion for the adjournment for the Summer Recess, as my noble friend the Leader of the House has already announced, will be made on Friday. It will contain the usual provision to empower the Lord Chancellor, on representations being made by the Government, to call your Lordships' House together at an earlier date if such a course should appear necessary in the public interest. There is no business on the Paper for tomorrow (Thursday) and the House will probably not meet to-morrow. The House will meet on Friday at eleven o'clock to consider the Appropriation Bill and for the holding of a Royal Commission. Then the Motion for the Summer Recess will be moved.
