HL Deb 08 December 1938 vol 111 c411
THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD MAUGHAM)

My Lords, the policy of gradually extending the system of compulsory registration of land in this country was accepted in principle by Parliament in passing the Land Registration Act, 1925. By the present Order it is proposed, if your Lordships approve, to extend the principle to the County Borough of Croydon, which, as your Lordships well know, has been greatly increased in population of late years. The step is approved by the Croydon County Borough Council and the Croydon and District Law Society. There has been a report by the Special Orders Committee of your Lordships' House that no further inquiry is necessary before this House proceeds to a decision on the Motion to approve the Order. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Special Order, as reported from the Special Orders Committee on Tuesday last, be approved.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
