HL Deb 12 April 1938 vol 108 cc667-8
THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (EARL STANHOPE)

My Lords, it will be necessary to-morrow to hold a Royal Commission, and I think it will be for the convenience of the House if I ask your Lordships to meet to-morrow at half-past three and if the Commis- sion be held at four o'clock. I propose also to put down a Motion to-night to suspend Standing Order No. XXI so that the Ecclesiastical Measures in the name of the most reverend Primate may be given precedence to-morrow, and also that the final stage of the Army and Air Force (Annual) Bill, which has to receive the Royal Assent, may be taken. The advantage, I think, will be that the important Motion in the name of the noble Lord, Lord Marley, would then come on after the Royal Commission and would therefore not be interfered with, and we should be able to go straight ahead with its discussion, if that is your Lordships' wish. I propose, therefore, that the House should meet to-morrow at half-past three, and that the suspension of the Standing Order and this other business should be taken first.

House adjourned at five minutes past five o'clock.
