HL Deb 26 July 1937 vol 106 cc929-30

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

LORD TEMPLEMORE

My Lords, this Bill is, as your Lordships are aware, passed annually in order to confirm the Customs regulations of the Manx Legislature and to make modifications in the law relating to Isle of Man Customs administration similar to those made in respect of United Kingdom Customs administration by Acts passed since the date of the last Isle of Man (Customs) Act. The Bill covers Resolutions of Tynwald passed in order to bring the Customs Duties in the Island into line with the United Kingdom duties. Clause I. confirms a Resolution relating to certain duties which in the Isle of Man are imposed from year to year, the corresponding United Kingdom duties being permanent. Clauses 2 and 3 apply to the Island the alterations of duty on Empire reed organs and Empire silk stockings and socks embodied in the recent United Kingdom-Canada Trade Agreement. Clause 4 confirms Resolutions of Tynwald by which certain duties imposed in the United Kingdom by Orders made under the Irish Free State (Special Duties) Act, 1932, are applied to imports from the Irish Free State into the Isle of Man. Clause 5 is the short title of the Bill. This Bill being what I might describe as a hardy annual, I think I need say no more about it but merely move that it be now read a second time.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a:.—(Lord Templemore).

On Question, Bill read 21: Committee negatived.
