HL Deb 21 May 1936 vol 100 c1148

Read 3a (according to Order), with the Amendments.

Clause 3 [Transitional provisions as to existing meters]:

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (THE EARL OF PLYMOUTH)

My Lords, I have one drafting Amendment on this Bill.

Amendment moved— Page 4, line 27, leave out (" section ") and insert (" subsection ").—(The Earl of Plymouth.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

LORD ELTISLEY

: My Lords, I beg to move that this Bill do now pass. Now that this Bill is about to pass I should like to take this final opportunity of conveying my best thanks and warmest appreciation to the staff of the Electricity Commissioners for their help in dealing with the many complicated Amendments which it has been necessary to introduce in this House during the passage of the Bill. These Amendments were not controversial, but they were nevertheless difficult to introduce in the Bill in their proper form. Although this is but a humble Private Member's Bill, it deals with a question of much importance to the public and also to the electrical industry as a whole. This Bill, when it becomes an Act, will adjust and clarify a most unsatisfactory state of affairs. It will do so with reasonable expedition and in a manner which will obviate unnecessary expenditure. I beg to thank your Lordships for the way in which you have facilitated and expedited the passage of this Bill.

Moved, That the Bill do now pass.—(Lord Eltisley.)

On Question, Bill passed, and returned to the Commons.
