HL Deb 05 March 1936 vol 99 c925

THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES (THE EARL OF ONSLOW) moved, That the Marquess of Crewe be named of the Standing Orders Committee in the place of the Marquess of Reacting (deceased). The noble Earl said: My Lords, I think in whatever quarter of your Lordships' House noble Lords may sit you will have heard with great satisfaction that the noble Marquess, Lord Crewe, is going to return to the position which he occupied with so much distinction for so many years—namely, that of Leader of his Party. It is, as your Lordships are aware, the usual custom for the Leaders of the three Parties to be members of time Standing Committees of your Lordships' House, and therefore I have put down three Motions to add the name of the noble Marquess, Lord Crewe, in the place of the late Lord Reading, as a member of the Standing Orders Committee, the Special Orders Committee and the Committee of Selection. I beg to move the first. Motion.

Moved, That the Marquess of Crewe be named of the Standing Orders Committee in the place of the Marquess of Reading (deceased.).—(The Earl of Onslow.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
