HL Deb 28 July 1936 vol 102 c280
THE LORD SPEAKER (THE EARL OF ONSLOW)

My Lords, I have to acquaint your Lordships that the Lord Chancellor has received a cablegram from Mahmoud Bassiouni, the President of the Egyptian Senate, of which the following is a translation: In its Session to-day the Egyptian Senate, by a unanimous vote, has authorised me to express to the House of Lords its most cordial congratulations on the occasion of the outrageous attempt on his life from which His Majesty King Edward VIII has happily escaped, and also its most sincere good wishes for the long reign of His Gracious Majesty and the prosperity and well-being of the great and beloved British nation. The Lord Chancellor has sent a suitable acknowledgment to this.
