HL Deb 28 July 1936 vol 102 cc283-4

Order of the Day read for the consideration of Commons Reason for disagreeing to one of the Lords Amendments.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (EARL DE LA WARR)

My Lords, I beg to move that the Commons Reason for disagreeing to the Lords Amendment be considered. I had not intended to say anything at this stage because I thought that perhaps the most reverend Primate would first wish to make a statement. The Reason which the Commons give is the following: Because the Amendment would involve a charge on public funds by authorising grants for non-provided schools which would not otherwise have been lawful and the Commons do not offer any further reason trusting that the above Reason may be deemed sufficient.

Moved, That the Commons Reason for disagreeing to the Lords Amendment be now considered.—(Earl De La Warr.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
