HL Deb 08 July 1936 vol 101 c539

Amendments reported (according to Order).

Clause 8 [Power of local education authority to make grants for enlarging, etc., non-provided schools]:

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (EARL DE LA WARR)

My Lords, I have three drafting Amendments to this Bill about which I may perhaps say one word of clarification. They are Amendments proposed to subsection (3) of Clause 8 in order to remove any possible inconsistency with the proviso to subsection (2), which was inserted at the Report stage In the House of Commons and, therefore, too late to be corrected there. The Amendments leave quite untouched the main purpose of the subsection, which is that a school must be needed to meet the requirements of the school population as it will be one year after the appointed day—namely, on September 1, 1940. I beg to move the first Amendment standing in my name.
