HL Deb 28 March 1935 vol 96 cc457-8

LORD BALFOUR OF BURLEIGH rose to ask His Majesty's Government when the appearance may be expected of the Report of the Departmental Committee on Garden Cities and Satellite Towns, which was stated or, 30th of January last to have been ordered to be published; and to move for Papers. The noble Lord said: My Lords, on the 30th January last the noble Viscount who answers for the Ministry of Health told your Lordships that the Report of the Committee, the name of which is in my Question, had been ordered to be published. The time seems rather long, and I would not trouble your Lordships but for the fact that references to this matter have been beginning to appear in the Press, and a suggestion has been made that His Majesty's Government were holding this Report over for some evil purpose of their own. I should be the last person to make any suggestion of that kind, which I am quite certain is untrue and unfounded; but these suggestions have been made and in the hope of hearing that the Report will be published very soon I beg to ask the Question and to move for Papers.

VISCOUNT GAGE

My Lords, the noble Lord has no great cause of complaint as to the length of time taken. I understand that instructions have been given for the publication of this Report, and it will be published next week.

LORD BALFOUR OF BURLEIGH

My Lords, I am much obliged to the noble Viscount. I understand him to say that the Report will be published next week, and therefore I beg leave to withdraw my Motion.

Motion for Papers, by leave, withdrawn.

House adjourned during pleasure.

House resumed.
