Order of the Day for the consideration of Commons Amendments to Lords Amendments read.

VISCOUNT GAGE

My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend Viscount Halifax, I beg to move that the Commons Amendments to the Housing Bill be now considered.

Moved, That the Commons Amendments be now considered.—(Viscount. Gage.)

On Question, Motion 'agreed to.

LORDS AMENDMENT.

[The references are to Bill No. 81.] Clause 6, page 7, line 1, after ("and") insert ("the regulations may provide for the exclusion from computation, or for the bringing into computation at a reduced figure, of floor space in any part of a room which is of less than a specified height. "(5)")

The Commons propose to amend this Amendment as follows: After ("height") insert ("(not exceeding eight feet)").

VISCOUNT GAGE

My Lords, the first of these Amendments is a small matter which concerns the effect of the Amendment passed in your Lordships' House which gave the Minister considerably more powers than it was intended should be given. Under the Amendment the Minister was enabled to exclude for the purpose of the computation under the Schedule certain small rooms, and it has since been pointed out that actually the Amendment gave him power to exclude rooms of considerable size. That was not the intention of the Government and it was agreed to accept this limitation of eight feet. I beg to move that this House cloth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Viscount Gage.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
