HL Deb 14 February 1935 vol 95 cc929-30

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (VISCOUNT HAILSHAM) had given Notice that, in the event of a Message being received from the Commons that they have passed the Unemployment Assistance (Temporary Provisions) Bill and the Consolidated Fund (No. 1) Bill, he would move that Standing Order No. XXXIX be considered in order to its being dispensed with for the purpose of passing the said Bills through all their stages. The noble Viscount said: My Lords, the two Bills which are referred to in the Motion standing upon the Order Paper in my name were both circulated to your Lordships with the Papers this morning. For the reasons which I explained yesterday, it is very important that we should get them on the Statute Book at the very earliest possible moment, certainly before the end of the week, and I therefore beg to move the Motion that Standing Order No. XXXIX be suspended for the purpose of passing these two Bills through all their stages.

Moved, That Standing Order No. XXXIX be considered in order to its being dispensed with for the purpose of passing the Unemployment Assistance (Temporary Provisions) Bill and the Consolidated Fund (No.1) Bill through all their stages.—(Viscount Hailsham.)

On Question, Motion agreed to, and ordered accordingly.
