HL Deb 15 November 1934 vol 94 c467

[The references are to Bill No. 150 as printed for the House of Commons.]

Clause 1, page 1, line 11, leave out ("calendar").

THE MARQUESS OF LONDONDERRY

My Lords, when the Bill was framed it was contemplated that the Act would come into force on the 1st January, 1935, and that the appointed betting days would be fixed in relation to the calendar year. It will be seen from the later Commons Amendments that it is proposed that the licensing system should take effect as from the 1st July; and that the appointed days should be fixed in relation to the period from 1st July to 30th June each year. The present Amendment is accordingly part of the scheme for making the betting year run from July to June. I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Marquess of Londonderry.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
