HL Deb 14 June 1934 vol 92 cc1133-4
THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (VISCOUNT HAILSHAM)

My Lords, probably it may be convenient, although I see no one on the Opposition Front Bench to ask me the usual question, if I stated shortly what will be the business for next week. On Tuesday next there will be the Committee stage of the Cotton Manufacturing Industry (Temporary Provisions) Bill, the Third Reading of the Betting and Lotteries Bill, the Second Reading of the Statutory Salaries (Restoration) Bill, the Bill restoring the "cuts"; and the Report stage of the Unemployment Bill and the Licensing (Permitted Hours) Bill, which we have been dealing with this evening.

For Wednesday there are Motions on the Paper in the names of my noble friend Lord Kilmaine and of Lord Arnold. In addition to that, there will be the Third Reading of Bills which have passed their Report stage, I hope, on the day before, and of the Statutory Salaries (Restoration) Bill, which is a certified Bill and probably, therefore, will not have to have a Committee stage. I would ask your Lordships to try and get the Third Reading of these Bills not later than Wednesday next because they are Bills which have to receive the Royal Assent and be brought into operation next week if possible. There will also be the Second Reading of the Trustee Savings Banks (Special Investments) Bill and the Committee stage of the Protection of Animals (Cruelty to Dogs) (Scotland) Bill, which was read a second time yesterday.

On Thursday there will be the Committee stage of the Road Traffic (Compensation for Accidents) Bill, which is in the name of my noble friend Lord Danesfort, the Second Reading of the Palestine Loans Bill, and the Whaling Industry (Regulations) Bill, which received a First Reading yesterday, the Committee stage of the Sea Fisheries Regulation Bill, and the Report stage of the Administration of Justice (Appeals) Bill. Then, although I cannot state it definitely, we are trying to arrange that there will be a pro forma sitting on Friday in order to have a Royal Commission to give the Royal Assent to two or three urgent Bills which we hope by that time will have gone down to another place and received approval of Amendments winch have been inserted here.

House adjourned at twenty minutes past six o'clock.
