HL Deb 24 July 1934 vol 93 c1052

Page 3, line 24, leave out subsection (3) and insert: ("(3) In an action brought tinder the Fatal Accidents Acts, 1846 to 1908, damages may be awarded in respect of the funeral expenses of the deceased person if such expenses have been incurred by the parties for whose benefit the action is brought")

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, I beg to move that we agree with the Commons Amendment to leave out subsection (3) and insert the words as printed. This is really only a drafting Amendment. It was thought that the words in the Bill might possibly be misconstrued. The object of the Amendment is to remove any possible idea that an unreasonably large sum must necessarily be awarded for funeral expenses.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Lord Chancellor.)
